When Jennifer told us they were going skiing with friends over the holidays, I
realized Aloma and I needed to plan our own special Christmas. In spite of my
declaring that I would never travel within 500 miles of Florida because of my
accident last year, I knew Aloma had wonderful feelings about Naples. She
felt close to the people who helped her last year when I was hospitalized. We
were going back, so all we needed to do was to schedule to leave a week
earlier so we would be in Naples for Christmas.

On our first travel day, we were on the road by 5:30 a.m. and made it to
Saint Augustine, Florida by 3:00 for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants,
O’Steens, for fried shrimp. The next day we visited with my step-mother
and had lunch with two cousins and their husbands. After lunch, we were
on our final leg of the trip.

Aloma had set us up for a party with two other couples for Christmas Eve.
We both had a great time. On Christmas day, we went for a long walk,
relaxed for most of the day and then went out for dinner on Christmas
night with the group from the night before. Another fun night. And a
wonderful Florida Christmas.

But it was not all perfect. When I entered the condo, I had a flashback
from last year when I was in so much pain. I remembered struggling to
get from the kitchen sink to the breakfast table. I remembered how
difficult it was to get up from each chair in the condo. I remembered it
took me three tries before I could walk the 40 yards to the pool.

The good news--after three days, the flashback stopped and I was
totally comfortable. I’m enjoying our Florida vacation as much as Aloma is.
